Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Doctor's Referral?
No, Registered Massage Therapist's (RMT) are primary practitioners recognized by the Regulated Health Professions Act. Your RMT is licensed to assess and apply appropriate care without a physician's referral. Similar to other medical practitioners, they have a code of ethics and practicing guidelines of conduct.
Does O.H.I.P. cover the cost of my Massage Therapy?
OHIP Does not cover the cost of massage therapy treatments. However, most extended health care plans do cover part or all of the cost of your massage therapy treatments. Some extended health care plans require a doctor's note or referral for coverage. If you do not have an extended health care plan, massage therapy costs can be applied to your income tax for medical expenses. Only licensed registered massage therapists are recognized by insurance companies which provide extended health care plans.
Do I need to take my clothes off?
Comfort and security are our priority therefore, if you are uncomfortable removing your clothes then we will work with them on. It is however, more beneficial to massage the tissues and muscles directly through the skin with massage lotion. You are always covered with a blanket except for the area that is being treated.
Can a pregnant woman get a massage?
Absolutely! It is extremely helpful for a pregnant woman to be massaged, in any trimester. Massage helps to manage any low back pain, hip pain, headaches and swelling in hands and feet. Since you are not able to lie on your stomach, we have you lying on your side hugging a body pillow to help keep you comfortable. We recommend an hour treatment in order to help with circulation and relaxation of all of the tissues of the body.
